- As an obese, middle-aged housewife with a beard that Captain Bird's Eye would be proud of, I am currently enjoying a brief lull in the frenetic activity that has characterised my life so far. I would rather draw a veil over my past achievements for fear of alienating the reader - envy is an ugly emotion. (See my autobiography: "Roger de Courcy and Me" for details.) My story is a simple one: young girl on the brink of womanhood, apple-cheeked and innocent meets local landowner's son at a fireworks display. A glance, a smile, an unexpected bang, and the rest, as they used to say on the Burns Unit, will peel off in due course. After a chance meeting at the Sheffield and district Hammer Throwing Society, I was thrust into show business. My looks obviously lent themselves initially to radio, but it wasn't long before I caught the eye of legendary television producer Paulette Malmsbury-Withers who took a chance on this "barrel-chested simpleton" (her words, I blush to add) and teamed me up with a young Nicholas Parsons. Our show "Pass me that Sausage!" was a huge success which might have benefited from the introduction of colour, but was sadly cut after just 3 episodes…

Delighted to hear that all undergarmentry is safely in place prior to your embarking on any editorial endeavour; a principle from which Gethers might well have benefited. Eagerly await hourly updates on your misadventures, which probably says more about the emptiness of my own life than anything else. But hey, if I were to get a life (a suggestion that is regularly mooted), what would I do with it????
